July Monthly Recap

LOLA had a busy and exciting month this July. One of the month’s highlights was attending FreedomFest in Memphis, TN, from July 12th to the 15th. We were fortunate to have staff, volunteers, and members of our Speakers Bureau attend, speak, and table at the event. FreedomFest is an annual event that aims to promote the philosophy of freedom and bring together individuals who support the liberty movement.

During our time there, we championed why women are the best ambassadors of liberty and received an incredible amount of interest. Additionally, Holly Jean Soto, our Director of Operations, and Izabela Patriota, our Director of Development, were interviewed for News Talk 98.9.

You can find the complete recap of our experience, including updates on upcoming episodes of our new podcast Miss Libertarian, below:

In an interview with the British channel Talk TV, Jess Gill, the Social Media and Communications Manager at LOLA, discussed the 75th anniversary of the NHS and highlighted the limitations of socialized healthcare, emphasizing the need for reforms in the British healthcare system.

LOLA MENDOZA, ARGENTINA

DEBATE ON SEX WORK

The conversation about sex work impacts women all over the world. In Argentina, because of poverty and economic hardship, more women are choosing this profession to make a living. LOLA Mendoza held a gathering to talk about the conflicting stances on the issue: those who advocate for the eradication of prostitution versus those who think it should be made legal.

During the discussion, the group viewed two videos that highlighted the daily lives of sex workers, leading to a thoughtful conversation. The topic of kidnapping was also discussed, and how it differs from sex work, particularly in countries such as Argentina, where the two issues can be intertwined. The group also touched on the gender disparity in the sex work industry and delved into the underlying reasons for this imbalance.

LOLA ESPÍRITO SANTO, BRAZIL

ARRAIÁ DO GDM

The main goal of the event was to introduce LOLA to members of the Domingos Martins Group, which is an organization of young people who support the liberal movement. This group has been working as a training organization for aspiring liberal leaders in Espirito Santo for nine years.

At the event, the Chapter had the opportunity to introduce LOLA to the attendees. Additionally, they engaged in networking with potential speakers specializing in various topics such as medical cannabis, crypto assets, and education for individuals with epilepsy.

LOLA Espirito Santo recently started and already had their first chance to promote themselves. They teamed up with Livres to support the GDM event, which helped the Chapter connect with liberal movements that have been active in the region for a longer time.

This event has the potential to revolutionize the lives of women in India, promoting financial independence, gender equality, and inclusive economic development. LOLA WARSAW, POLAND

CANNABIS LIBERATION MARCH 2023

Possession, cultivation, production, trafficking, and consumption of marijuana are prohibited under Polish law and are subject to criminal sanctions. LOLA Poland participated in the march to bring attention to those whose lives are endangered by the lack of medical marijuana assistance and to those who sit in jail for possession of a few grams of marijuana. At the same time, real criminals remain free without being held accountable.

This event was significant as it was the first time our chapter participated in a street demonstration. It was crucial for us to show our online audience that we are actively involved in this type of social activism.

We were fortunate to meet Mestosław, a renowned Polish activist and YouTuber who campaigns for the cessation of the drug war and sheds light on the proven health advantages of cannabis. He was so impressed with LOLA’s message that he followed our Instagram profile and shared a photo of our group on his Instagram story of the event.

Our primary objective as a chapter was to demonstrate our support for the cause of the march. The Chapter enhanced brand awareness among the participants by distributing stickers created for the event with catchy slogans such as “End the drug war” and “Free love, free trade, free cannabis”, along with our LOLA logo.

As always, thank you to all of our LOLA Chapters and members for everything you do to help spread the message of liberty and LOLA!
