Most people think that socialism and communism have benefited women but we at LOLA know that liberty has been the most important value in women’s liberation. LOLA Chapters held 15+ events across the globe celebrating IWD through various protests and activities working to show that free markets and the ideas of liberty empower women, not socialism.

Revamping Feminism

LOLA leaders gathered in front of the White House to promote the ideas of liberty, shared what libertarian feminism means to passerbyers, and how free markets empower women, not socialism.

LOLA D.C. and GMU joined together at the Reason office in Washington D.C. as they united in the idea that women empower women, not governments.

Two LOLA Chapters joined together for a zoom conference discussing women’s participation in Latin America’s economy, concluding that countries with more liberty, result in more women participation, economically speaking.

LOLA Honduras celebrated International Women’s Day by talking to new women about using private, not government, solutions to advance women and the consequences of government intervention.

LOLAs went to downtown Mendoza City and passed out LOLA stickers in crucial points of the city including the main square, a local University, and a local institute.

LOLA Toronto hosted a live chat featuring two perspectives of the Ukrainian crisis. Their two hosts were Olga Ovchinnikova, a Russian international student, and anti-war activist settled in Canada, and Daria Moroz, a Ukrainian immigrant currently settled in Canada. Watch the talk here.

Promoting Liberty in Mexico

LOLA Mexico gave a workshop educating attendees on the waves of feminism in relation to individual liberty. LOLAs also organized a cultural festival in cooperation with GAM Country, with Mexican dances, school participants, Aztec ritual, live music, and a LOLA table where members introduced the principles of libertarianism and free markets to festival attendees.

LOLA Chile leader Joanna and LOLA Chile leader Catalina, talked about classical liberal feminism in Latin America with the Center Leadership of Women of the Americas forum in Peru.

LOLA Medillin used IWD to gather women of all backgrounds to a cocktail and networking event where they explored and asked questions about libertarian philosophy.

Women in Power

LOLA Brazil hosted four women from four different careers in the public sector to talk about the difficulties and advances of women in positions of power. Amoung them were city council member, Cris Monteiro, Monica Rosenberg, and Luana Tavaress who are running as federal representatives and Vivian Satiro who works in São Paulo’s City Hall.

LOLA Bolivia gathered for a presentation on three key women who have been important to liberalism, their contributions, and how we can apply their work today.

IWD Fundraising for flood victims 

The city of Petrópolis experienced recent flooding that devasted residents leaving homes and their city underwater. LOLA sympathizes with the victims of the tragedy and, in the spirit of International Women’s Day, organized a collection of funds to purchase undergarments for women affected by the rain.

LOLA Brazil held various events in honor of IWD in different states throughout Brazil. In the state of Porto Alegre, LOLA Brazil partnered with LIVRES in hosting a free financial education class for women. In the state of Florianópolis, LOLA partnered with LIVRES for an IWD event, and in Parana, for a discussion on women in politics.
