Behind the Scenes with LOLA – São Paulo

Ladies of Liberty Alliance – São Paulo

Meet the incredible women spreading liberty in the state of São Paulo!

São Paulo is South America’s most populous city and the industrial center of Latin America.

About LOLA – São Paulo

The São Paulo Ladies of Liberty Alliance Chapter was founded in June 2018 by Thais Noguerira. Thais wanted there to be a larger female libertarian presence in her state and set out to build a group of empowered Ladies of Liberty. Since its first event, the chapter has grown to include over 40 women. Roughly 1/4 of the chapter members first got involved in the liberty movement through LOLA.

The Beginning
When Thais Nogueira decided to bring LOLA to São Paulo, she started searching for women in her area. The first event held by the chapter brought together 10 Ladies of Liberty and has since grown to 42 women as of July 2019.

São Paulo Events
The group’s favorite way to reach new ladies is through creative events including financial independence workshops, book clubs, and guest lecturers. Some of their past events include a panel of ‘Women in Politics’ partnered with USP Liberal, attending the lecture of political scientist Gloria Alvarez.

In the Media
In July 2019, the group was featured in Folha de S. Paulo, one of the biggest newspapers in Brazil. A journalist visited the chapter and talked about their activism and roles with LOLA after seeing their “Change My Mind” style event.

What’s Next?

The São Paulo chapter is now under the direction of Marina Zones. Currently, they host discussions about a variety of local issues with their recurring “Coffee with LOLA”. Through their discussion they hope to reach more women that are not familiar with libertarianism.

“At a time when libertarian groups are mostly composed of men, LOLA has opened the space for women to embrace the movement and solve problems related to the female world, from a libertarian perspective.”
– Iris Paiva, Chapter Member

“LOLA is the best for ladies who defend women’s rights without being statist and want to discuss libertarian solutions to sexism and other women issues”
