Background

Abigail Thernstrom is an Adjunct Professor at American Enterprise Institute (AEI). She is a former senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute in New York and was formerly the vice-chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights from 2001 to 2013. She also serves on the board of advisors of the US Election Assistance Commision and was a member of the Massachusetts state Board of Education for eleven years. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Government, Harvard University, in 1975. She is also a recipient of the prestigious 2007 Bradley Prize for Outstanding Intellectual Achievement. She serves on several boards, including the Center for Equal Opportunity and the Institute for Justice.
