Ricky Maman from Cohelet Policy Forum opened the discussion on empowering women in the Liberty Movement. Ana Rizo, the President of LOLA Canada, shared her immigration experience and classical liberal views. Kerry Halferty Hardy discussed labor laws in France, the US, and the UK, highlighting high employment costs and inflexibility in France.
Ana criticized Canadian labor laws for trade barriers and specialization requirements, sparking a lively debate. Ricky highlighted Israel’s outdated labor laws, leading to a discussion on the need for reform. Kerry and Ana debated protections for women in the workplace and observed differences in female leadership despite varied maternity policies. The speakers emphasized the importance of negotiation skills and mentorship. Kerry raised concerns about AI’s impact on work and the need for ethical discussions, which are drawing significant interest. Ana added a cultural note about Canadian Labor Day in September, similar to the US, and concluded the discussion on a light note.

The session aimed to motivate women to surmount these challenges and attain greater representation and leadership opportunities.

RELIGION AND LIBERTY
LOLA Tel Aviv recently hosted a thought-provoking webinar titled “Can We Find the Common Ground?” This webinar explored the relationship between religious belief and liberal values. The panel featured liberal thinkers from three different Abrahamic traditions: a Jewish liberal woman from LOLA Israel, a Catholic liberal woman from LOLA Portugal, and a Sunni Muslim liberal woman from LOLA Asia.
The webinar focused on the concept of liberty in sacred texts and how it is interpreted within Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The panelists discussed significant narratives such as Moses and the Exodus, and how these stories influence contemporary liberal values and the understanding of freedom within and outside religious contexts. The conversation delved into important questions surrounding the scope and limits of religious freedom.
Dr. Ayemen Fatima, Deputy Director of Student Programs at Students for Liberty, shared her journey from India and emphasized her advocacy for human rights, individual freedom, and healthcare reforms. Renata da Luz Fernandes from Portugal discussed how she integrates her Catholic faith with her expertise in law and finance, highlighting her resilience and dedication. Haggith Schlesinger Dahan, from Israel, shared insights from her experience as an Orthodox Jewish woman and veteran reserve officer, focusing on her roles in the military and financial sector.
The event provided a platform for these remarkable women to share their unique perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of how liberal values can coexist with religious beliefs.

LOLA Madrid recently hosted an empowering workshop to address women’s confidence in applying for better jobs and the government restrictions on starting businesses and being independent contractors. The hands-on workshop focused on CV writing, job interview techniques, and job hopping skills.
The speaker, Mónica Cárdenas, a Cuban digital marketing and social media enthusiast, shared her extensive experience. Mónica holds a law degree specializing in copyright and related rights and a master’s in event management and digital marketing, focusing on community management. She has organized numerous corporate, cultural, and institutional events, managed contracts and teams, and is skilled in SEO, content marketing, WordPress, analytics, web positioning strategies, Google My Business management, and internal communication.
Mónica shared her inspiring story of overcoming migration, changing careers, and living in Cuba during the communist regime. Her testimony deeply resonated with attendees, leading two women to join LOLA and express a desire to learn more about liberal ideas. The event successfully provided valuable skills and inspiration to participants, fostering a supportive community of aspiring women leaders.
LOLA UBERLANDIA, MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL
VICTORY DAY
The recent event hosted by LOLA Uberlândia featured compelling lectures on women’s health and testimonials from successful women in their professional and personal lives. The event addressed the lack of representation of women in positions of power and discussed public policies aimed at supporting women who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.
The speakers at the event were Dr. Thea Santana and Cris Fernandes. Dr. Santana, a doctor specializing in obstetrics-gynecology with 28 years of experience, is a member of the Brazilian Society of Climacterics and the Brazilian Society of Adolescents. She shared valuable insights into women’s health and the importance of specialized care.
Cris Fernandes, a photographer specializing in intimate sessions, has transformed the lives of over 8,000 women in her 16-year career. She is a graduate of the Image School in Belo Horizonte, an entrepreneur, and a social media/marketing expert. Married and a mother of four, Cris shared her inspiring journey of professionalism and excellence.
The event successfully provided attendees with crucial information on women’s health and empowerment, emphasizing the importance of representation and support for women in all aspects of life.

WHAT IS LIBERALISM?
LOLA Guatemala recently hosted an introductory event for new volunteers, which focused on the basics of liberalism. The attendees highlighted the importance of understanding the difference between freedom and libertarianism, and expressed their intention to delve deeper into the subject by seeking additional resources for further reading.
The speaker, Estela Martínez, shared her extensive experience and insights. Estela is a dedicated student pursuing a dual degree in Political Science, specializing in Public Policy and Global Affairs. Three years ago, she founded and served as the President of both LOLA Guatemala and Oleada Feminista, demonstrating her commitment to impactful initiatives. With over seven years of experience in international organizations, Estela brings a wealth of knowledge to her current role.
Although she no longer holds the position of President, Estela remains the Founder of both organizations and continues contributing to their missions. She has also served as the Social Media Strategist for LOLA, enhancing the organization’s online presence. Currently, Estela is the Project Manager for the new LOLA Activism Fellowship, further showcasing her dedication to advocacy and leadership.
The event introduced the volunteers to key concepts of liberalism and inspired them to continue their learning journey.

DEBATE PRIVATE PROPERTY VS. GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION
LOLA Guatemala recently organized a thought-provoking event. During the event, participants highlighted the significance of understanding diverse perspectives to articulate their opinions effectively. Participants showed a strong interest in exploring the various branches of liberalism.
One of the key topics discussed was the insufficient protection of property rights in Guatemala, specifically regarding land invasions. Participants also noted that, despite the legal obligation of the State to ensure various social rights, it often falls short and impedes private initiatives from providing these services.
The event emphasized the importance of conducting similar exercises in the future to enhance participants’ ability to defend their freedom of expression with well-founded arguments. Attendees gained valuable insights on arguing from different perspectives and expressed their commitment to furthering their education in liberalism.

LOLA’S PRESENTATION TO THE DRIVERS WHO ARE PART OF THE FIRST BRAZILIAN INSTITUTE FOR KARTING SISTERS
LOLA Maranho organized an event for women drivers interested in building new relationships and exploring sports. The discussion covered topics such as liberalism, various opportunities available to women, and the importance of acknowledging and supporting each other’s strengths.
At the event, we introduced LOLA to the attendees by setting up an informative table with folders, water, sweets, and small gifts to encourage interaction and discussions about our organization.
Following this event, we continued our outreach at Livraria Leitura, where the leadership team joined us to share experiences and further engage with the community. This event successfully facilitated connections and highlighted the diverse opportunities and strengths for women within the LOLA network.
