READING GROUP ON AN INTRODUCTION TO DEMOCRACY
LOLA Peshawar organized a compelling study circle at Abasyn University in Peshawar, Pakistan. The event was centered around the Urdu translation of Eamonn Butler’s book “An Introduction to Democracy.” This gathering was particularly significant as the Chapter believes in the crucial role of democracy in ensuring accountability, representation, and participation in governance in Pakistan.
During the event, 25 women actively participated in reading the Urdu translation of Butler’s insightful book. This reading served as the foundation for the discussions that followed. The participants engaged in a spirited and insightful debate on various aspects of democracy. They delved into theoretical underpinnings and practical applicability, particularly in Pakistan. One of the key decisions made during the event was to organize a meeting in January to define the agenda of events for 2024. This meeting will be pivotal in outlining the year’s activities and goals. The 2024 agenda will include continuing the book club and organizing workshops specifically tailored for women from underprivileged communities. These initiatives are aimed at broadening the impact and outreach of the Chapter.

ECONOMY IN LIVING ROOM
This event focused on understanding the current economic landscape in Israel and exploring practical ways to communicate about economics, a topic often perceived as complex and challenging. The event featured several distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on economic literacy and education. Dr. Idit Kalisher, an economist and researcher at the Aaron Institute for Economic Policy, is also the author of “In the Forest,” a book that has contributed significantly to economic literacy. Dr. Renana Leviani, a philosopher with a Ph.D., is known for her book “The Truth Must Be Told – The Great Human Problems Facing the State and Their Solutions.” Adv. Tzvia Shiff, a strategic consultant and business development specialist, leads the Kohelet Forum’s content division and is the Easy Economics Association director, which focuses on making economic discourse accessible in high schools. Carmi Or, a financial advisor and project manager in financial education, is also the founder of Financial Boutique and Zugitae. She has been guiding families and organizations in financial education since 2007 and is the author of “Don’t Owe Anyone Anything.” The event was hosted by Kati Tzariov, who, despite having no background in economics, provided a relatable and accessible perspective to the discussions, making the complex topics more approachable for the audience.
