On International Women’s Day, LOLA Guatemala participated in the Women’s Day March, promoting the individual freedom of women and rejecting violence and coercion in all its forms. Through conversations with women from diverse backgrounds, we gained insight into the challenges women face in Guatemala and reflected on the state’s failures, particularly regarding the tragic deaths at Hogar Seguro Virgen de la Asunción. LOLA Vancouver’s inaugural event, Liberty Night, successfully introduced the vision and mission of LOLA to women across Greater Vancouver. The event featured a distinguished panel of female leaders, including MP Tracy Gray, MLA A’Aliya Warbus, and Professor Fan Wang, who discussed women’s rights and freedom in the context of politics, business, arts, and academia. With nearly 80 attendees, the discussions focused on economic freedom, gender stereotypes, artistic freedom, and women’s leadership, encouraging meaningful dialogue and collaboration. This event marked a significant step towards building a network of advocates for women’s empowerment in British Columbia.
