BREAST CANCER, PREVENTION AND AWARENESS FOR PINK MONTH

LOLA Jujuy, Argentina hosted an event about breast cancer, prevention and awareness for pink month. The event was held to raise breast cancer awareness and discuss healthcare access challenges in the province. The discussions highlighted the strain on the public and free healthcare system caused by foreign patients, which sometimes leaves local Argentine citizens with limited access, raising equity and discrimination concerns. A rich debate emerged around the balance between free public and private healthcare, emphasizing the need for continued activities to inspire public policies that align with professionals’ expertise and patients’ needs. The meeting also marked a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to one of their leaders, Majo, who is embarking on an exciting journey to Spain to pursue her Master’s degree.

READING CLUB “READING IS FREEDOM” – 2nd EDITION

LOLA Lima, Peru hosted the second edition of their reading clube“Reading is Freedom” provided an open space for participants to explore liberalism through the book Doblemente Libres by Roxana Nicula. Over four Saturdays, attendees discussed the book’s chapters, culminating in a face-to-face event with the author via Meet, where they shared their insights and reflections. The discussions emphasized how many regional ministries fail to meet their primary goals, such as reducing violence against women, and explored how private solutions could offer better alternatives. Roxana Nicula highlighted key components of a liberal state concerning women’s issues, fostering a rich dialogue on the book’s themes.

CONVERSATION “WHAT IS HAPPENING IN VENEZUELA? ONE MONTH AFTER THE ARBITRARY DETENTION OF MARÍA OROPEZA”

The event hosted by LOLA Arequipa, Peru aimed to reflect on the situation in Venezuela, particularly for an audience with limited knowledge, while maintaining focus on political prisoners, including LOLA Venezuela leader María Oropeza. The speaker emphasized why Venezuela operates as a dictatorship and how María Oropeza’s case illustrates the risks faced by those exercising their right to free speech. Attendees, including a Venezuelan migrant, shared perspectives on how they could contribute to addressing these challenges, fostering a meaningful dialogue on individual roles in advocating for freedom and justice.

OPEN MASTERCLASS “ORGANIZED CRIME IN PERU”

This event aimed to raise awareness about organized crime in Peru and the readiness of the Peruvian penal system to address these crimes, highlighting the risks to life, freedom, and private property when the system fails. The speaker outlined key crimes associated with organized crime in Peru, while participants actively inquired about recent legislative changes perceived to favor criminals. The discussion also explored potential solutions, including stricter penalties, prison reforms, and individualized approaches to addressing crime.

DISCOVERING THE FREE CITIES

The webinar “Discovering the Free Cities” hosted by LOLA Tel Aviv, Israel featured insights from Peter Young, managing director of the Free Cities Foundation, who explained the concept of Free Cities as self-governing territories prioritizing individual rights and freedoms, similar to special economic zones but with greater autonomy. Using Dubai as a successful example, the presentation highlighted the benefits of policy experimentation, risk mitigation, and voluntary participation. Attendees explored political challenges, such as those faced in Honduras, and the integration of technology and cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin. Misconceptions, such as fears of imposed systems, were addressed alongside the importance of community building and economic foundations. The session also reviewed the rapid growth of the Free Cities movement, which now encompasses 23 projects, and discussed immigration policy developments and the model’s applicability in regions like Israel, underscoring its potential to address governance challenges globally.

LOLA Warsaw, Poland hosted a book club to analyze the Hunger Games trilogy, fostering deep discussions on themes such as Greek mythology, Objectivism, and the foundations of liberalism and libertarianism. FREEDOM PITCH 2024

The event in which LOLA Peshawar, Pakistan participated saw 150 participants who were educated on the principles of liberty and entrepreneurship. Discussions focused on how regulatory frameworks impact business and economic activities, with an emphasis on how over-regulation can stifle growth. The top three winners of Freedom Pitch 2024 were awarded with cash prizes, recognizing their innovative approaches to fostering economic freedom.

16 DAYS ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER BASED VIOLENCE UNDER THE THEME BREAKING THE SILENCE – ADVOCATING FOR FREEDOM FROM GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

The event united young voices to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and its far-reaching impact on individuals, communities, and society. Featuring a panel of esteemed speakers, the dialogue explored strategies for GBV prevention, survivor empowerment, and inclusive policymaking. Key discussions emphasized the devastating effects of GBV on women’s autonomy and freedom, perpetuating inequality, discrimination, and undermining human dignity. Special attention was given to the disproportionate impact on women with disabilities, advocating for their inclusion. Through partnerships with organizations like Students For Liberty Zimbabwe, African Young Leaders Foundation, and Young Women for Economic Freedom, the event fostered collaboration to challenge societal norms, promote human rights, and build sustainable solutions to end GBV.

LOLA WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA

PAD DONATION DAY WITH SPECIAL NEEDS LEARNERS

On November 15, 2024, LOLA Namibia held a Pad Donation Day for 45 visual and deaf learners from Dr. Romanus Kampungu and Andreas Haingura Kandjimi Primary Schools, aged 13 to 24. The event aimed to address the lack of sanitary pads, educate attendees on menstrual health and hygiene, and introduce the mission, vision, and activities of the Ladies of Liberty Alliance (LOLA). The LOLA team responded to the learners’ struggles, exacerbated by language barriers preventing effective communication with parents. Participants were educated on proper pad usage, hygiene practices during menstruation, and the risks of prolonged pad use. Additionally, the team shared LOLA’s origin, targets, and programs, including Chapter Programs, Speakers Bureau, and Leadership Training. The event was a heartfelt success, providing much-needed support and raising awareness about menstrual health.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, LOLA Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Students For Liberty, hosted a thought-provoking hybrid discussion on breaking gender norms. Drawing inspiration from Mieko Kawakami’s reflections and liberal feminist theories, the event highlighted the role of men in challenging entrenched societal expectations and fostering gender equity. Participants engaged in deep dialogues on the impact of traditional norms on behavior and relationships, emphasizing individual responsibility and systemic change. The session provided valuable insights, motivating attendees to drive meaningful progress in their communities while advancing the principles of individual freedom and equality.

The meeting of LOLA Buenos Aires, Argentina with Stanis Benjamin provided an enriching platform to exchange perspectives on team building and leadership innovation. The event aimed to provide Cuban artists opposing the dictatorship a platform to showcase their work and exercise freedom of expression while raising awareness about the realities in Cuba, including the plight of political prisoners. Through art exhibitions and testimonies, including poetry and conversations from former political prisoners, attendees gained deeper insights into the struggles faced by those advocating for liberty in Cuba. The event also spotlighted the case of Maria Oropeza, furthering its mission to bring visibility to human rights issues under the Cuban regime.

CELEBRATING OUR JOURNEY- A REFLECTION ON ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES OF 2024 + PLANNING FOR 2025

The event focused on presenting the importance and distinction of liberal ideas while providing a reflective analysis of the year 2024 for each participant. It included discussions on individual goals and how the group can guide and support them. The breakfast meeting, attended by 9 members, inspired ideas for next year’s events, such as initiatives against violence towards women, in collaboration with the OAB por Elas Program from OAB Bauru, which offers free legal guidance to women victims of violence. Additionally, a proposal was made to establish a group within LOLA Núcleo Bauru for women interested in discussing politics.

SPEAKER SESSION ON THE MORALITY OF CAPITALISM

The event organized by LOLA featured a speaker session on Morality of Capitalism, aimed at educating students on the philosophy of capitalism and distinguishing it from crony capitalism. The discussion also explored the impacts of communism and socialism on society, highlighting how these systems negatively affect political, social, and economic structures. Cait provided a comprehensive presentation from AFP, highlighting the role of EDAs and taxpayers with examples from Florida, California, and Virginia. Khadija and Ayesha further elaborated on comparisons between the Pakistani government and the economies of the U.S. and China.
