Cinema in Heels: Six Triple Eight

The LOLA Cochabamba chapter hosted a powerful Cine en Tacones screening and discussion centered on the film Seis Triple Ocho, using cinema as a tool to question dominant narratives and examine uncomfortable truths.

The event created a reflective space where participants explored how film can challenge ideological structures and cultural stereotypes. By connecting art, political philosophy, and women’s lived experiences, the discussion encouraged critical thinking and sparked a conversation on how cultural expression can be a force for individual empowerment.

How to Organize Events

LOLA Brazil hosted an exclusive online workshop for chapter leaders and co-leaders focused on the essentials of event planning. Participants learned how to define, structure, and execute both small and large-scale events. The session covered key topics such as:

  • What qualifies as an event

  • Step-by-step planning

  • Real examples from successful LOLA gatherings

It was also a space for leaders to ask questions, exchange experiences, and strengthen their organizing skills.

Feminist Fellowship by Project Abhaya

From June 16 to 18, LOLA Kathmandu member Nitisha Ban participated in the Feminist Fellowship by Project Abhaya—an intensive program focused on women’s political leadership. The event brought together young changemakers to engage with top female leaders, including the chair of the National Women Commission, and explore key issues like empowerment, legal reform, and gender equality.

Highlights included a visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a film screening, and a Hackathon where participants proposed community-based solutions to real-world challenges. The fellowship inspired several attendees to connect with LOLA and continue advancing liberty and leadership in their communities.

From the roots of liberty to blockchain, entrepreneurship, and ethics, Liberty Camp offered a powerful mix of intellectual exploration and personal growth. The evenings brought everyone together through debates, games, and cultural shows—making it a week no one will forget.

Book club launch and discussion

LOLA Natal kicked off its new book club with a timely conversation about freedom of expression. While the main purpose of the event was to launch the club and select upcoming readings, participants also dove into a pressing national issue: the U.S. sanctions on Brazil and the application of the Magnitsky Act against a Brazilian Supreme Court justice.

The next book the group will explore is Against All Censorship – A Brief Treatise on Freedom of Expression by Gustavo Maultasch.
