Ladies of Liberty Alliance – Pará, Brazil
Meet the incredible women spreading liberty in Brazil
About LOLA – Pará
The Pará Ladies of Liberty Alliance chapter was founded by Jessica Carvalho with the help of Cecília Lopes, LOLA’s Brazilian Chapter Director. The state of Pará is located in northern Brazil, with the northeast border touching the Atlantic Ocean. With a consistently warm climate, Pará is visited by people looking to explore the Amazon Rainforest, the Amazon River, and their beautiful beaches. The Pará Chapter of the Ladies of Liberty Alliance has quickly grown to be one of Brazil’s largest. The chapter leaders enjoy hosting creative events and reaching out to new women in their communities!
The beginning
Jessica started the Pará Ladies of Liberty Chapter on February 14th in Belém, the Capital and largest city in the State of Pará. Her first event, a simple interest meeting brought 11 new ladies!
Self-Defense Class
In March, the chapter hosted a class open to local women where they could learn important self-defense techniques. Chapter leaders Jessica and Julia also spoke about LOLA’s mission and answered any questions new attendees had.
In the News
LOLA – Para’s recent event entitled “Liberdade Feminina e A
gressão” was covered by Diário Online, a Brazilian
news site published in Portuguese.
Juliane Braga
“LOLA is the kind of organization I had been looking for for a long time. The absence of women in politics here in Brazil is a huge [issue], so [I] love introducing women to liberty and female empowerment. LOLA aims to increase female leadership, which is very important when it comes to Brazil, a country that has not yet overcome discrimination.”
-Juliane Braga, LOLA Pará Chapter Leader
Because of our generous donors and supporters, we are able to empower female leaders of liberty in fourteen countries and counting. On behalf of all of us at the Ladies of Liberty Alliance, thank you!
