Ladies of Liberty Alliance – Dharan, Nepal
Meet the incredible women spreading liberty in Nepal!
About LOLA – Dharan, Nepal
The Ladies of Liberty Alliance was first introduced in Nepal by Siksha Bhattarai, a graduate of Namuna English School. In October of 2018, she worked to organize an interest meeting and built the chapter from there! Nepal, a landlocked country located in Southeast Asia bordered by India and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The country is home to some of the most rugged mountain terrain in the world, and the economy is therefore heavily dependent on imported goods. Siksha felt that Nepal needed an organization to encourage women to become familiar with libertarianism. Since their founding, the Nepal chapter of the Ladies of Liberty Alliance has grown from one woman to a network of over 20 empowered women.
The Beginning
The Ladies of Liberty Alliance was first introduced in Nepal in November 2018. Their first event was a simple interest meeting to introduce ladies in the area to LOLA’s mission to educate and empower female leaders within the liberty movement.
Building the Chapter
As the chapter began to grow, chapter leaders worked to plan exciting events. They organized a female self-defense class at a local martial arts studio. With roughly one-third of women experiencing gender-based violence, the class would offer an opportunity to learn crucial skills, including both situational awareness and the best defensive techniques for women.
What’s Next?
Aside from organizing self-defense lessons, the Nepal Ladies of Liberty Alliance Chapter enjoys meeting for discussions on local issues, as well as planning “Liberty Hikes” in partnership with their local Students For Liberty chapter.
“I enjoy meeting with like-minded women, realizing the individual strengths of each Lady of Liberty, and encouraging them to fight for liberty in their personal and professional endeavors. I have the amazing opportunity to challenge other LOLAs in my chapter and reach new women with the ideas of liberty.”
– Siksha Bhattarai, LOLA Nepal chapter leader
Because of our generous donors and supporters, we are able to empower female leaders of liberty like Siksha in sixteen countries and counting. On behalf of all of us at the Ladies of Liberty Alliance, thank you!
