Background
Kate Baker is the Executive Director of the Network for Educational Opportunity, the first organization to implement the School Choice Scholarship Act, which created the New Hampshire Education Tax Credit Scholarships. In their first 2 years, the organization she leads in New Hampshire, NEO, was able to establish and grow a scholarship organization, reach more than 1500 scholarship applicants, provide 143 children education scholarships, stave off aggressive repeal of the education tax credit scholarship law twice, assist in the legal challenge of the program and win in the NH Supreme Court, engage community leaders, and award $180,000 for scholarships. Improving education is Kate’s personal mission. She is passionate about gifted education, homeschooling, innovative teaching and learning, and school choice. She is a founder of The Greater Manchester Alliance for the Gifted, Scholars’ Academy, and the Academy for Science and Design Educational Foundation. She was a member of the Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee of the Manchester School District and she currently serves as the Chair of the Polaris Charter School Board of Trustees. Kate was honored to be recognized by the New Hampshire Union Leader & the Business and Industry Association as a “40 Under Forty″ in 2013 and by the Peace Islands Institute of NH from whom she received their 2013 Education Award.
