Amber Smith is the author of Danger Close: One Woman’s Epic Journey as a Combat Helicopter Pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan, published by Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster (September 6, 2016). Amber is a writer, speaker, and commentator where she provides expert analysis on national security, military operations, and foreign policy on national TV shows and in an array of publications. She is also a Senior Fellow at Independent Women's Forum. Her articles have been widely published in Forbes, The Hill, The Washington Examiner, Aviation Week, and more. She is a regular guest on TV and radio programs including CNN, Fox News, Fox Business, MSNBC and more. Smith has traveled across the nation to tell her inspirational story and to speak to military and corporate audiences, veterans organizations, at grassroots events, and on Capitol Hill. Smith served in the United States Army as an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter pilot-in-command and air mission commander for almost eight years in the 101st Airborne Division. She is a combat veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
